Who
is your favorite comedian?
Hmmm...tricky. I'd have to say my earliest influence was the Robot
from Lost in Space. "Danger! Danger! Will Robinson!" (my
arms were flailing around wildly while I typed that last bit)
Who is your favorite actor?
Well, again, the Robot from Lost In Space is right up there. (What
a great theatre voice!) However, if I have to pick a human - I would
go with Anna Nicole Smith. Who can forget her Oscar winning performance
in "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult"? Not to mention
her Emmy winning show on E!? Oh yeah, she's also got this on-going
shtick about being a former model! What a riot!!!
What is your favorite CXP game?
Another tricky one! Probably "Bob". Here's how it works:
Get your favorite refreshing "beverage" (if you know what
I mean), then watch any episode of any Bob Newhart show (any series,
although "Newhart" is my personal favorite). Then anytime
someone on the show says "Bob", you take a drink of your
refreshing beverage. I still haven't seen episode #43 all the way
through. Oh wait, I don't think this is a CXP game.
Where were you born?
I'm told Earth, but there are some who would disagree.
(Mainly TrxyZorb and Qixpy12.) Go Big Red!
What do you do at CXP?
Mostly the light chores: Fluffing, folding, and putting away the
dishes. I also work on the web site, but I'm filing a medical hardship
with management, claiming carpal tunnel syndrome. Early retirement,
here I come!
What is your favorite Des
Moines activity?
My absolute favorite thing is returning CXP pop cans to Hy-Vee,
and embezzling the return money.
What is your favorite place in
Des Moines?
Ideally, in a first class seat on a plane about to leave for the
U.S. Virgin Islands where I will start my new life as Beals Vanbaron
McNobbly
Who is your favorite Des Moines
personality?
Ah! Easy! This one day I was driving east on University,
by Mercy Hospital, and over to my left was this guy standing by
the side of the road, screaming "YOU WILL NOT STEAL MY SOUL!"
into a drainage grate. Then he threw up. That guy.
What is your most memorable moment at
CXP?
Well, this one time Jenny Nordstrom kissed me on the cheek, Diane
Rinehart hooked her arm into mine, and Joe Van Haecke shook my hand.
It was so cool. I still haven't washed any of those places.
Who are your influences as a performer?
You mean besides the Robot, Anna, and the throw-up/soulless guy?
Isn't that enough?
Are you married? Do you have kids?
Both my wife and daughter say no, but I really question that.
Why do you like improv?
Improv gives me an opportunity to perform with CXP.
Why do you like CXP?
CXP gives me an opportunity to perform improv. Wow, I just got this
strange sense of Deja Vu. Like I just typed that...or I just typed
something like that. Oooh, just had it again! Spooky.
What advice can you offer to improv students?
Ok, I'll be honest here (not that I've been lying previously): When
improvising, go with the first thing that pops into your head! It
doesn't matter if you can't see where it will all lead - just go
with whatever comes to you. Our minds instinctively "know"
how to improvise - the problem is our consciousness is constantly
editing our thoughts (which is a really, really good thing - except
for improv). Beyond that: Accept everything said; Don't ask questions;
And don't forget the three primary ingredients of a scene are Character,
Conflict, and Emotion. Whew!
What are your hobbies and interests?
I've spent the better part of 20 years trying to decode the lyrics
to Donna Summer's "MaCarthur's Park". WHY THE HELL WOULD
YOU LEAVE A SWEET GREEN FROSTED CAKE OUT IN THE RAIN??? I also collect
mannequins in the hopes of finding one that is, in reality, an ancient
time-traveling Egyptian princess that looks like Kim Cattrail from
Sex and the City. Hey, it's a dream.
Who would you most like to meet?
The Borg. But only if I have the anit-borg-assimilation nanobots
the Doctor developed to protect Captain Janeway, Lt. Tuvok, and
B'Elanna Torres in "Star Trek: Voyager" Episode #122,
"Endgame". Man, I really need to get a life.
What is your favorite movie?
The Flinstones in "Viva Rock Vegas!" Just kidding! He,
he. (Actually, the first one was much better - I mean how can you
go wrong with Joan Collins?) No, I'd probably have to go with any
Doug McClure opus, like "Humanoids From The Deep", or
"The Land That Time Forgot".
How did you get started in improv?
Master Chung brought me into the monastery at a young age to learn
the art of improv. I was only recently graduated, and brought into
CXP as a level one grasshopper. I hope to one day fight Chuck Norris
in the Octagon for Champion Improv Master Professional (or CHIMP
for short).
Anything else you'd like to share?
My hard drive space. But only if you can crack my network. So yes,
consider the gauntlet thrown, all you hackers out there! |
